Travel Expectations vs. Reality: A Wedding Day to Remember in Southern France (Photos)

A wedding day to remember in southern France with family, friends, and a little extra sparkle.

This was the kind of day where everyone got exactly what they wanted. The kids had their lazy version of vacation. We got to put on something other than swimsuits and go to a wedding where I danced the night away.

This day was one of the main reasons for our trip to France. My best friend was getting married at Domaine Des Moures, and the whole family was along for the ride. The schedule looked calm and balanced, but in reality it was a mix of sugar highs, sandy toes, and champagne toasts.

Wedding Guests in France Expectations vs. Reality

Expectation: Breakfast at the Condo

Reality: The teen decided that dessert made the best breakfast while the preteen and parents chose the beach. To each their own.

Expectation: Kids’ Choice for Activities

Reality: The teen stayed back with YouTube while the rest of us hit the sand. Honestly, everyone seemed pretty thrilled with their pick. Check out our beach photo idea here:

Expectation: Parents Leave for Domaine Des Moures

Reality: Mom and Dad pulled it together and headed out, excited and slightly sun-kissed. The venue was stunning and the energy was buzzing with the bicultural excitement.

Bonus #1: As beautiful as the venue was, it was very overcast and cloudy for the entire reception and beginning ceremony. When the bride and groom’s selected the song “Ave Maria” played, the sun surprised us all appearing once the song started - it was so moving.

Bonus #2: Our table of West Coast Swing dancers actually won the photo contest! I like to think it was our collective charm, but it might have been the props. Either way, bragging rights secured.

What I Learned:

  • Letting the kids choose their own fun kept everyone happy, and saying yes to the wedding fun gave us memories I’ll never forget.

  • West Coast Swing dancers sure are competitive even off the dance floor.

It was one of those best days where everything felt balanced: family time, friend time, and a little extra glamour at the wedding. Stay tuned for the next post: solo travel in Lyon!
