Travel Expectations vs. Reality: Beach Day on the Mediterranean Sea (Video and Photos)
The itinerary promised a full day of sunshine, sand, and simple pleasures on the Mediterranean Sea. After days of road tripping and sightseeing, I was ready for a slower pace with my friends, who also flew to France from America. This day ended up being not only relaxing but also filled with the kind of personal, heartfelt memories that you can’t schedule.
I have known the bride since my early days of West Coast Swing and we even lived together for a year. Fun fact: on the same day we moved in together it was the same day when we were all together in France eight years later!
Mediterranean Sea Expectations vs. Reality
Expectation: Breakfast at the Condo
Reality: Even after yesterday’s abysmal first start to the condo rental, we woke up to an incredible view that kind of makes it worth it. We slept in and spent the morning in air conditioning before preparing to be at the beach all day.
Morning views from our balcony. Waking up to the Mediterranean never gets old.
Expectation: Picnic Lunch at the Beach
Reality: We didn’t actually have a picnic. Instead, I had the chance to spend time with the bride’s family at their beach house, helping her prepare table centerpieces and photo booth props for the wedding. It was an unexpected but incredibly special moment that I’ll always remember.
Expectation: Walk Around and Shopping
Reality: On a whim, we rented fun bikes instead and had such a blast riding to the store and the beach house, where we did wedding prep. It was a playful way to explore the area and made the afternoon feel carefree.
Expectation: Afternoon at the Beach
Reality: Exactly that. Sun, waves, laughter, and time to soak in the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea, which was the real showstopper.
Expectation: Wedding Welcome Dinner at Le Trident
Reality: It was a great evening to gather together, share drinks and snacks by the sea, and feel the excitement building toward the big day. The food, the company, the setting all came together beautifully.
What I Learned:
Sometimes skipping one plan makes room for an even more special memory.
Adding something playful, like renting bikes, brings new energy to a travel day.
Beach days are the perfect reset between sightseeing and celebrations.
Our Mediterranean beach day was one of those rare times when reality was just as good as the plan, maybe even better. Between the laughter on the bikes, the time in the sand, and helping my beautiful friend with her wedding details, this day became another highlight of my trip.
