"So You Want to Honor Black Dance History?" Here’s a Free Resource for West Coast Swing
Honoring Black History in West Coast Swing
FREE resource
When I first started West Coast Swing, none of my instructors acknowledged nor taught the history of the dance that I grew to love for its variety of relatable music and modern take on improvisational partner dancing. As I learned more about its rich history of diverse roots, I had to also learn to honor its inclusivity originated deeply in Black history.
As someone who is deeply connected to my own roots and how that’s shaped my journey in dance as the only cultural educator, I created this acknowledgment resource in honor of Black History Month because:
Our dance has deep roots in Black American culture that deserve recognition
Many dancers want to be more inclusive but don't know where to start
We need practical tools to make our spaces more welcoming
What's Inside This Resource?
Think of it as your starter pack for being a more informed and intentional member of our dance community. You'll get:
A thoughtfully crafted acknowledgment statement
Practical guidance on how to use it respectfully (below)

Let's Build Better Dance Spaces Together
Whether you're an instructor, event organizer, or passionate dancer, this resource is your first step toward making our community more welcoming and inclusive. Because honestly, the only thing that should be exclusive in West Coast Swing is our arm styling.
