Why I'm Leaving Meta in 2025: A West Coast Swing Community Builder's Journey Beyond Facebook

Meme of two choices use facebook for everything or use anything else and third panel text reads Community Organizers.

Use Facebook for everything or use anything else?

Community Organizers be like:

January-August was a long year, but I (you, we?) made it! 🥴

What a ride, huh? In the first half of 2025:

  1. I entered the last year of my 30s.

  2. TikTok got day-banned.

  3. I started a new job.

  4. I announced my plan to transition off of all Meta platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and Threads (who used this anyway?). I also requested phone numbers because I really wanted to chat and personally connect instead of behind a social media profile page.

I have asked and looked for Meta alternatives and, so far, no other platform does what Facebook has been able to do:

  • Event organization.

  • Social networking.

  • Personal / group messaging.

  • Community communication.

  • Meme groups.

As a community organizer, this really sucks. I share a lot of community resources, important updates, and overall knowledge from my perspective. Honestly, I gave up and decided to bring all of the good I feel I was doing into my own website so welcome to rassamy.com.

Why I am Leaving Facebook

Zark Muckerberg Lizard McLizardFace bent the knee and I’m embarrassed for him. Also I have always wanted to blog again to better organize all of my thoughts, creativity, and projects. This is also the perfect opportunity to document life as I see, experience, and know it especially in these … unique federal changes happening since January 20th so the future generations can know the impact of the leadership of this time on people who live, work, or care like I do.

So! Welcome to my little corner of the internet and please follow, like, subscribe as the kids say to:

What’s Next of Deleting Meta?

  • Phase One:

    • Download all my Meta data.

    • Reduce posting original content on Facebook.

    • Delete Threads.

  • Phase Two:

    • Stop posting original content on Facebook.

    • Redirect folks to my website here.

    • Remind folks on Messenger I’m leaving so better exchange digits!

  • Phase Three: Delete all Meta pages when the following events are over:

  • Phase Four:

    • Flail around trying to plan events around the world within a Facebook-centric community.

    • Wish me luck.

The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.
